<image:caption>We were thrilled to be able to provide a Shinrin Yoku Forest Bathing experience for our guests. With Elspeth, an old friend, as our Forest Therapy guide, we moved through Notley Fern Gorge, taking in our surroundings and spending time with the trees, the creek and the wildlife. With the threat of wet weather, we rendez-vou’d with Ellen’s parents, who brought us all the raincoats they could muster! The weather was good to us, and we bathed amongst the tall eucalypts and sombre tree ferns. Ellen even spotted a rare Pink Robin!</image:caption>

Greeted by Otto the Weimaraner, we shared platters, sipped wine and wandered the rows of vines in the afternoon sun. As the shadows started to lengthen, Ellen took us through a restorative practice before we headed out to dinner at Timbre, the exceptional restaurant at Velo winery.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - More plants in your kitchen is good for the planet.</image:title>
<image:caption>Farms with lots of different plant species are healthier. This is particularly true for farmers who engage in modern techniques like regenerative farming or permaculture practices. We promote crop diversity by increasing the demand for diverse fruits and vegetables in the choices we make when doing our weekly grocery shop. So much about climate change feels out of our individual control. After we’ve switched to renewable power and fossil-free superannuation funds, it can sometimes feel hard to know what to do next. One next step can be the choices you make every time you do your grocery shopping. The single most important thing you can do to combat climate change as an individual or family is to eat less meat. By adding more variety of plants, you can work towards reducing the amount of meat in your meals. This is also a way to add new, exciting flavours and textures to your cooking. It can feel easier said than done, though, which I experienced when I transitioned to a mostly plant-based diet two years ago.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Masks, unbroken breath and the pandemic. - Find a comfortable seated, upright position, cross legged on the floor with a blanket or cushion, or seated on a chair with both feet resting to the floor; I recommend not leaning back against anything so you can feel the full expression of the breath.</image:title>
<image:caption>Begin by feeling connected through your sit bones to the support beneath you and sit tall, feel your spine rise up out of the bowl of your pelvis, lengthen the skin on the back of your neck and reach up through your crown. Start to listen to the sound of your breath as it moves in and out of your nostrils and bring a whisper of a contraction to the back of your throat. Follow the sound of your breath for a few minutes, simply witnessing it. Notice the volume and quieten it again; feel rather than hear your breath. Now begin to even out the inhale and the exhale, breathe at half your capacity and as slowly as possible and feel this soothe your nervous system. Notice any subtle breaks, gaps or irregularities in the breath. As you observe your breathing, shift your attention to the moments of transition from one breath to the next. You can smooth out these transitions with a small adjustment: At the end of the inhalation, when the abdomen has expanded, simply relax and let the exhalation begin. At the end of the exhalation, when the abdomen has contracted, simply relax and let the inhalation begin. By consciously relaxing at the moment when each breath ends, you can weave one breath into the next. Imagine breathing around a circle that extends from behind, through the centre of you and to the front of your torso. Follow your breath around this circle that moves through you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Not a stretch in sight - During the recent Covid lockdown I experienced some quite acute low back pain, which made me feel nauseous. I used to experience this pain a lot and there was nothing I could do except lie on the ground and wait for it to pass! Now I know what to do….I gathered my props: half deflated pilates ball, a bolster, a strap, block and roller. I started on my back with my knees bent and my feet resting on the wall, hip width apart and I used my breath to sense where the pain in my back was coming from.</image:title>
<image:caption>It takes time to yield into the mat and tune in to a felt awareness of the body, it also takes practice. What I found through simply lying on my back with my knees bent and feet at the wall was that the upper part of my left psoas and kidney / adrenal area was restricted. This makes sense as I have been stressed and my adrenals have been overtaxed. The psoas also acts as a messenger to the nervous system and when it’s tight, like mine was, it is guarding and being hyper vigilant and this in turn is communicated to the nervous system.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Ede’s a bit of a stationery fan and is desperate to find an Air-Ink pen to try out, but can’t find anywhere to buy one! Discovering this reminded us of a story we were told whilst visiting the Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul, a remarkably beautiful building designed by Mimar Sinan in the 16th Century. Sinan designed the mosque’s air flow so that all the smoke from the candles and oil lamps was directed through a single passage where the soot was collected. This was harvested and processed into ink for use by the Imams and scholars in the mosque. We dream of hosting a retreat in Turkey one day. We’d love to share the culture, the heritage, the food and the incredible hospitality of the Turkish people. Read more at https://www.designoftheworld.com/air-ink/</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Beautiful discoveries - Air Ink - Ink from Air Pollution</image:title>
<image:caption>Whilst visiting Mumbai on a break from studying at MIT, Anirudh Sharma was struck by how his clothes were dirtied by the car pollution in the city. He was inspired to create ‘Kaalink’, a device that collects soot directly from a car’s exhaust pipe. This soot is then harvested and turned into Air-Ink, the world’s first ink made from air pollution.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Moon and Tides of the Breath - Lie on your mat in constructive rest; with the knees bent and the feet hip width apart, the heels away from your sit bones. Let the bones of your body rest back into the earth. Feel the imprint that the body makes. Notice your body's weight and length. Become aware of your breathing. Where do you notice it in the body? Feel it flow in and out of your nostrils. Follow it from your nostrils down your throat and into the belly, feel it warmed by your body. Follow your breath back out through your nostrils. Can you sense a change in temperature? Cool air coming in through the nostrils, warm air going out? Listen to the soft sound that the breath makes as it moves in and out and hear it as the soft sound of the ocean, the waves lapping gently at the shore. In and out. Back and forth. Now place your hands on your low belly and feel the rise and feel of the belly beneath your hands. Feel the navel rise and fall. Breathe softly and slowly at about half your capacity and notice the soothing effect on your nervous system as you breathe into the belly and the low lobes of your lungs. Here in the low lobes of the lungs is the element of earth and water. Allow your breath to move down into your pelvis; filling the pelvis with breath. Softening and widening across the low belly. Imagine you could breathe the bones of the pelvis slightly apart. Can you notice a slight change to the curve of your lumbar spine as you breathe in and a lengthening of the tail along the mat as you breathe out. Imagine the breath as a tide that is gently rocking the pelvis as it flows in and flows out.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Five ways to add biodiversity to your breakfast. - If muesli or granola is the way you start your day, consider adding bushfoods, especially native spices. Lemon myrtle, cinnamon myrtle and wattleseed are all good additions to add a spark of native flavour to your muesli. A great way to really bring diversity to your breakfast bowl is to make your own puffed cereal from your local bulk food store. Puffed buckwheat, amaranth, brown rice and quinoa make a great base for a light and nutrient rich muesli. Add in some dried fruit, some nuts and seeds and you’ll be ready to go in the mornings.</image:title>
<image:caption>I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of smoothies, but they are a great way to get a variety of plants into your diet. A smoothie can also make a nice break from cereal and toast! Adding different plants, seeds and nuts to your smoothie base of banana, milk and berries can really turbo-charge it. Try adding some cashew nuts (soaked in cold water overnight, or hot water for 10 minutes before), a small handful of kale, a teaspoon of turmeric, or some pitted dates. In season fruit that’s ripe (or just a little bit past) adds flavour, fibre and sweetness.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Hi, we’re Ellen and Ede of Gourmet Yoga.</image:title>
<image:caption>We have spent our lives bringing people together and nourishing them, an extension of the love we share for each other, travel, and great food! We originally met in high school and after a 6 month wooing by Ede, we started going out, and have been ever since.* Our lives together have taken us around the world. We’ve lived in Brazil, Portugal and the UK. We returned to Australia in 2018 and founded Gourmet Yoga. *We celebrated 25 years together in 2019!</image:caption>

      <image:title>About</image:title>
<image:caption>Throughout our lives we’ve brought people together in gatherings. We hosted the lounge bar Il Gattino, the Hobart Fringe Festival Club, birthday parties, dinner parties and other festivities. At one time, our apartment was known as The White Lounge, from the frequency of parties we hosted for Is Theatre Ltd in Hobart. Our dedication is to our guests, doing everything within our power to provide an environment that feels nurturing, supportive and fun. Gourmet Yoga is our opportunity to share our love of yoga and food with people who can benefit from taking time out to nourish their spirits and indulge their senses.</image:caption>
