On our second Tasmanian Gourmet Yoga retreat in 2019 we stayed at the delightful Tamar Ridge Vineyard.

Each morning we woke to the sun rising from behind Mount Barrow, with Ellen guiding us through yoga focussed on the themes of Earth, Water and Air on the terrace under the open sky.  When it was a bit chilly we snuggled up in picnic blankets for savasana! Piling in and out of the minibus, with Ede at the wheel we explored the amazing restaurants and vineyards the Tamar Valley has to offer.

Our tour took us to Moore’s Hill Estate, a completely off-grid vineyard. Greeted by Otto the Weimaraner, we shared platters, sipped wine and wandered the rows of vines in the afternoon sun. As the shadows started to lengthen, Ellen took us through a restorative practice before we headed out to dinner at Timbre, the exceptional restaurant at Velo winery.

We were thrilled to be able to provide a Shinrin Yoku Forest Bathing experience for our guests.  With Elspeth, an old friend, as our Forest Therapy guide, we moved through Notley Fern Gorge, taking in our surroundings and spending time with the trees, the creek and the wildlife.

With the threat of wet weather, we rendez-vou’d with Ellen’s parents, who brought us all the raincoats they could muster!  The weather was good to us, and we bathed amongst the tall eucalypts and sombre tree ferns. Ellen even spotted a rare Pink Robin!

Our last day together started out with our yoga class overlooking the Tamar Valley. We then headed to  Stillwater restaurant for brunch, then a walk through Launceston’s Cataract Gorge to take in more of Launceston’s splendour.  We hugged everyone goodbye at the airport, looking forward to when we can bring more people to Tasmania to share these amazing experiences.
